Miami – EL1: Piastri fastest, Bearman makes a mistake

Hopefully, the teams and drivers were able to test everything they wanted, as free practice is already over after just one session. The fastest time in the single hour of running went to Oscar piastri, the fastest under the Miami sun.

The Australian set his time at the right time, as a few moments later Oliver Bearman made a mistake driving his Haas by spinning into the circuit wall. Although the Briton didn't hit hard, he stopped and ended the session with 5 minutes left on the clock and Lando Norris among others, was on a flying tour.

The pilots McLaren took their marks quietly in this session, which they did not crush unlike what they regularly do on Fridays. Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were content with the third and fourth fastest times during the run on medium tires, where they were unable to beat the Mercedes.

George Russell, who had long held the fastest time, suffered a major scare in the slower section of the track when he lost the rear. Luckily, he managed to keep his car on track and held the fastest time, set on medium tires, ahead of his teammate Kimi Antonelli until many drivers switched to soft tires.

Mercedes comfortable on the mediums

His compatriot Lando Norris had a lively session: from the very first moments, the reigning vice-world champion had to return to the pits because he had taken with him tools left behind by a mechanic. The Briton, who will be summoned by the stewards after the session along with his team to explain himself, then had a scare when he narrowly missed hitting a Esteban Ocon in slow motion.

Being one of the only drivers who had time to switch to soft tires, Sainz, Albon and Hadjar ranked in the top 10. The Frenchman conceded only 0 seconds to Max Verstappen on the same rubber: an interesting performance before the sprint qualification scheduled for 22:30 p.m. this Friday evening. For the other French players, Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly, the weekend starts less well: the two former teammates are at the bottom of the ranking.
