After a delayed start and a chaotic race in many respects, the FIA stewards added some spice to an already complex sprint. After the race, three more drivers were penalized, while four were summoned to appear before the commission responsible for handing out penalties.
Spared, Charles Leclerc had been found guilty of having continued to drive despite the damage noted on his car during the grid lap. The Monegasque did not start the Sprint, and clearly provoked the leniency of the stewards by only receiving a reprimand. On the other hand, Oliver Bearman, Liam Lawson, and Alexander albon did not suffer the same fate.
Called to order, the pilot Williams was given a five-second penalty for an infraction committed under the safety car regime. Fourth in the regular season, the Thai driver ultimately finished in 12th place. More obviously, Liam Lawson was found at fault for the retirement of Fernando Alonso, irregularly charging the Spaniard at the end of the race. He was also penalized five seconds, the Racing Bulls driver also had a point deducted from his Super License.
Finally, Oliver Bearman also fell in the overall standings. Due to a dangerous lapse by his team in the pit lane, the Briton concludes this list of penalized drivers. They thus join Max Verstappen, also penalized during the race for the same reason as his counterpart from the team Haas.
In this way, Kimi Antonelli, having lost big points after giving up his first place to the benefit of Piastres, and Pierre Gasly, symbolically enter the points of this sprint race.
