Michael Schumacher injured in skiing accident

The old pilot Ferrari was transported by helicopter to the Moutiers hospital then to that of Grenoble after a major shock to the head in a fall while skiing while he was off-piste (exactly between two slopes) today. “He was wearing a helmet and hit a rock while falling. He was shocked but conscious. He may have a head injury. » explains Christophe Gernignon-Lecomte, director of the Méribel station in Savoie to RMC. Emergency services quickly intervened to help him.

The High Mountain Gendarmerie Platoon confirmed the diagnosis of head trauma. However, the vital prognosis is not engaged for Schumacher at the time of taking charge. The latter underwent extensive examinations (MRI and CT scan) to determine the severity of his injuries. Professor Gérard Saillant, who operated on the pilot after his accident at Silverstone in 1999, went to Isère in the afternoon. Olivier Panis also tried to see the German, but was unable to get to his bedside.

At the start of the evening, the Grenoble University Hospital announced that it would not communicate on the state of health of the German champion, just like Professor Saillant. A press release from Sabine Kehm, Schumacher's press secretary, is expected.

At 22:40 p.m., the Grenoble University Hospital announced that the pilot's condition was " critical. He suffered from severe head trauma with coma when he arrived. His condition required immediate surgery. » But still no official statement from the former Ferrari driver's entourage to confirm or deny this latest information. The Grenoble hospital will provide further information tomorrow morning around 11 a.m.
