Michelin: Pirelli finds it “absurd”

" Absurd ". Pirelli, through Paul Hembery, was very skeptical and incredulous in the face of Michelin's interest in returning to Formula 1 from next year. The director of the sports branch of the Italian manufacturer, questioned by the Daily Telegraph, was keen to point out that his company already has an agreement with 10 of the 11 teams for next year as well aswith Formula One Management (FOM) by Bernie Ecclestone. If the contract still has to be signed with the FIA, Hembery believes that it would be “absurd” for the latter to launch a new call for tenders now.

“If Michelin wanted to come back, why didn’t they come and say so last September? », asked the British leader. “To be honest, a call for tenders in September when we are rolling in January would be absurd. It should have been done last year. We have contracts in place, and we hope that people will respect them. »

Regarding the deadlines mentioned, the French manufacturer assured privately that this would pose no problem for them.
