Michelin considering a return to F1

Bridgestone having decided to withdraw at the end of the 2010 season, the International Automobile Federation must allow the arrival of a new tire manufacturer in the premier category. Jean-Dominique Senard, representative of Michelin, told the Bloomberg agency that the Clermont-Ferrand firm is “ in talks » with the FIA ​​in this perspective.

« We might consider returning, but there need to be some very clear conditions “, he said. We know that Michelin, which particularly appreciates competition with Dunlop in Endurance, wishes to be able to communicate on the qualities of its tires, so as not to be just a supplier without a message. The French firm wants in particular a modification of the rules in order to “ show the performance they can provide, particularly in terms of fuel savings and C02 reduction. »

Michelin is therefore not against a return to Formula 1, but for this it will be necessary for the emphasis to be placed on the performance of the tire, so that the manufacturer finds it in his interest. “ We need to ensure that our tires can show what they can bring to the automotive industry. », concludes Senard.
