Respectively 16th and 17th at the finish, Mick Schumacher et Kevin Magnussen had a complicated weekend at Spa-Francorchamps for Haas. The two American cars were never able to fight for points in Belgium, being completely lacking in pace in the race.

“Circuit specific” problems

“It was difficult, yes, especially after the safety car restart, it was a bit frustrating to be right and see the other cars moving away, confides the German pilot. Not having a top speed compared to the cars around us was painful but on the other hand, it's great to be here, great to ride in front of so many people, including Germans. »

Mick Schumacher, however, believes this lack of speed is due to the specific characteristics of the Belgian track. “It was circuit specific that we struggled today (Sunday. Editor’s note). We hope to be in a better position at Zandvoort where we should be able to fight for points again, and also in terms of upgrades. We should have a better reading there because it's more comparable to Budapest. I expect the car to be a bit faster and hopefully that will give us points. »

In addition to a more favorable circuit, the German expects to see some drivers make mistakes on a circuit as physical as that of Zandvoort. “Banking essentially allows us to move more quickly around the corner. Physically it just means more pressure on the neck, but Zandvoort has always been a track that has been tough on the neck. There's a lot of revs, a lot of fast corners, and there's also high downforce, so it's definitely going to be interesting. This also means that there will be opportunities if you are fit enough to withstand this, perhaps giving you the opportunity to take advantage of mistakes made by other drivers. On a track like that it usually ends up getting pretty close to the wall or gravel - that could give either one the position. »
