Mick Schumacher philosophizes after his aborted F1 debut at the Nürburgring

Mick Schumacher preferred to retain the positive lessons despite his thwarted debut in an official role on a Grand Prix weekend with Alfa Romeo

The current leader of the championship Formula 2 was supposed to take the wheel of Antonio Giovinazzi during Free Practice 1 at the Nürburgring this Friday morning. Alas for the son of the seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, the thick fog which enveloped the Eifel massif on this opening day pinned the cars in their garage.

« It’s obviously a shame not to have been able to ride, confided Mick in the afternoon. We knew the weather forecast wasn't great. At this time of year, the Eifel massif is not the driest or sunniest place in the world.

In the end, the preparations were still satisfactory, we exchanged a lot with the team during meetings and I was able to learn a lot of knowledge and real know-how. It was very useful ».

Schumacher clarified that he would remain immersed with Alfa Romeo all weekend, with F2 not making a stop at the Nürburgring this season.

« I will stay with the team and continue to participate in the various meetings to familiarize myself with the different procedures that the pilots must follow. Formula 1 », he confirmed.

While he is strongly anticipated for promotion to F1 next year, particularly at Alfa, the 21-year-old was evasive, to say the least, about his chances of reaching the premier category.

« The important thing is to end the F2 season on a good note, Mick repeated with his usual caution. We are in a good position and I am focused on this goal. As for the rest, I can't tell you much more. ».

The Ferrari Driver Academy has not yet made it known whether Schumacher and Callum Ilott, his sidekick in the young drivers sector of Maranello and rival F2 which should have rolled with Haas this Friday morning, would have the opportunity to make another appearance in Free Practice this season. Their comrade Robert Shwarzman will ride in Abu Dhabi, where the weather will undeniably be milder.
