Mick Schumacher felt at home in Bahrain

Si Mick Schumacher has already been able to pilot a F1 in 2017 by evolving on his father Michael's Benetton B194 on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit, the tests organized this week at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain were the first opportunity for the German to test a modern F1.

The rookie of the F2 at Prema Racing carried out a good test session on the Ferrari SF90 with which he set the second best time despite a day disrupted by rain. The 20-year-old German continues the tests with Alfa Romeo this Wednesday.

“I just want to get back on track and try to improve on the things I need to improve on. I may not have been able to do as many laps as I would have liked, but I plan to catch up (today)”, he said on the F1 website.

Mick Schumacher was marked by the performance of the Ferrari SF90, which was much more efficient than that available to him in F2.

“I already felt like I belonged. It was nice to do these first laps with all these people working on the car and with me. I immediately felt very comfortable, he added. I felt such power the first time I stepped on the accelerator... There is so much potential to be exploited with cornering speed and traction that it's hard to put into words. You can brake later and later and the car stops the same way, it's amazing. »

“I have always said that you have to have respect for discipline, otherwise you put yourself in danger. I have a lot for this car. It develops more than 1000hp and the turns come together really quickly”, commented the German.

Also present in Bahrain to participate in the Pirelli tests in Bahrain, Fernando Alonso believes that Mick Schumacher is doing well to show himself ready to evolve in the premier single-seater category.

“It’s always better to start as early as possible, declared the double world champion on Sky Sports. You never know when the F1 train will pass when you're young. He must concentrate on F2 this year in order to have a good season. He will then have to take his chance if an F1 team wants to bet on him. »
