Mick Schumacher on Alfa shortlist for F1 test

Promoted to Formula 2 with Prema this season, Mick Schumacher is also a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy recently and could therefore carry out its trial run in F1 as part of the 2019 rookie tests.

Remember that of the four test days organized during the season, two are reserved for drivers who have less than two Grand Prix starts, provided that they have the appropriate Super-License.

After his overall victory in F3 Europe last year, Schumacher has the 40 points necessary to obtain the precious sesame. On the other hand, Alfa does not, in theory, have a dedicated young driver to field during these famous rookie tests. The participation criteria exclude Marcus Ericsson, former Sauber driver with 97 F1 starts and team ambassador this season.

In an interview with the official F1 website, Frédéric Vasseur, boss of Hinwil, explains that the choice of the cloverleaf brand will be dictated by the technical department of Simone Resta, in agreement with Ferrari.

« We have a shortlist of candidates and Mick is on it because he is one of the guys in F2 who meets the eligibility criteria, confided the French manager. The choice is quite limited but we haven't made a decision yet.

We have several names on the list and will continue to evaluate the options available with Ferrari. The technical feedback from the driver is important during these runs but it is not easy to find a driver who has not completed more than two races in F1 and offers good feedback. ».

The first rookie test will take place in the wake of the Bahrain Grand Prix, where the son of the seven-time world champion will be present for the kick-off of the Formula 2 season.
