Mika Häkkinen: “Kimi is still hungry”

By offering a chance to Charles Leclerc 2019 in the Team Ferrari will separate from Kimi Räikkönen, the last to have brought him a Drivers' world title in 2007. A separation, after a second period for the Finn within Maranello, which will however not mark the end of the journey of "Iceman" in F1.

The old pilot McLaren will indeed find refuge next year with Alfa Romeo Sauber F1 Team, the team from its beginnings. A logical career pursuit according to Mika Häkkinen. The double world champion 1998 – 1999 with McLaren sees this as Räikkönen's ever-present desire to be at the highest level.

“Kimi's two-year deal with Sauber surprised many, but it clearly shows two things, comments Häkkinen in his column for Unibet. Firstly, Kimi still enjoys driving F1 cars and secondly, Sauber has ambition.

Kimi is still hungry, and that's the most important thing. He loves his job and his pace is still good. He was among the fastest in Singapore. Kimi is on his way to a team that really wants to work with him. This is good news for the entire championship.

Kimi's career began with Sauber. The team has struggled in recent years and is clearly looking to continue after its strong performance this season. A year ago the team signed a cooperation agreement with Alfa Romeo, the owners have ambition and they want Kimi to help them take the next step. »

The Finn will be supported for the occasion by the Italian Antonio Giovinazzi, confirmed yesterday by Hinwil.
