Mike Krack, new Aston Martin team principal (official)

Aston Martin has just formalized the arrival of Mike Krack as its new team principal. The former boss of competition at BMW in particular replaces Otmar Szafnauer, who left a few days earlier.

Mike Krack, new Aston Martin team principal (official)

The new chapter that begins Aston Martin in this year 2022 takes on a little more depth. After announcing the departure of Otmar Szafnauer At the start of last week, after fourteen years at the helm, the British team has just formalized the arrival of its new team principal, in the person of Mike Krack.

Past experiences that speak for him

Prior to his arrival at Aston Martin, Mike Krack led BMW's global motorsport operations since 2014, notably in charge of motorsport programs. Formula E or in IMSA.

“It is a thrill and an honor to have been appointed as Team Principal of Aston Martin, and I am very grateful to Lawrence [Stroll] and Martin [Whitmarsh] for giving me such a fantastic opportunity, he confides. Aston Martin is one of the biggest automotive brands in the world, and the fact that I was asked to play a leading role in achieving success in Formula 1 on the track that this illustrious name so deserves is a challenge that I intend to take on with energy and enthusiasm. »

The Luxembourger has already had experience in Formula 1 for almost ten years, working alongside none other than his future driver… Sebastian Vettel, between 2006 and 2007 at BMW-Sauber, where he worked as an engineer. He specifies :

“I have worked in motorsport for over 20 years and worked in Formula 1 with Sebastian Vettel in 2006 and 2007, when I was an engineer at BMW-Sauber and he was the team's test driver . I have great respect for his speed and ability, and it will be fantastic to have him back. Lance Stroll is also a very fast and talented driver, with 100 Grand Prix starts under his belt, and I look forward to working closely with him. »

Martin Whitmarsh, managing director of the British brand, was delighted with the arrival of such an experienced person within his team. “After having held very important positions in motorsport at BMW and Porsche, as well as experience as a Formula 1 engineer at Sauber, Mike has a blend of experience and expertise that makes him the ideal choice for us. »

The British team was also the first to announce the release date of the single-seater, the AMR22, under the aegis of the new 2022 regulations.
