Mission accomplished for Gasly, credited with the best lap

After two first timid races with Red Bull, Pierre Gasly was affirmed this Sunday, April 14 in Shanghai (China). The Frenchman remained wisely installed in sixth place throughout the Grand Prix, and also brought home the bonus point for the fastest lap in the race.

“This is the first time that I have recorded the fastest lap in a Grand Prix, explains the Norman, it's always a pleasure. » Pierre Gasly took the opportunity to put on soft tires at the very end of the effort thanks to a solitary position on the track.

" It was long. I was pretty alone during the whole race. There wasn't much to do, so I watched my erasers. If I had been in the Sahara, it would have been the same thing » laughs the Habs.

The 2017 Super Formula vice-champion therefore leaves Shanghai with a renewed smile. “It was a bit complicated this weekend, we can be happy to come away with these points, indicates the one who detailed a lack of efficiency in his driving on Saturday.

I think there are a lot of things to improve like my feeling with the car, but little by little I think we are improving. We take a step forward every weekend, but I would like to take three steps per weekend, he analyzes. I'm going back to England this evening to work two days at the factory. We will continue to work, I hope everything will align afterward. »

His boss Christian horner had no negative criticism to make. “He stole a point from Ferrari (Sebastian Vettel previously held the fastest lap. Editor’s note), this point is a very promising sign for him. He will build confidence on this performance. »
