Monaco-EL2: Ricciardo dominates the Mercedes

With an RB12 equipped with the V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit Renault (rebadged TAG Heuer) improved, Daniel Ricciardo set the best time of the second free practice session for the Monaco Grand Prix. The pilot Red Bull beat last year's pole position, signed in 1'15"098 by Lewis Hamilton, by lowering the performance in 1'14 "607.

Both Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are respectively six and eight tenths behind. Max Verstappen (Red Bull) confirms the good performance of the RB12s, also at ease on long stints, by climbing into fourth position at 0″964, last driver under a second.

The Toro Rosso by Daniil Kvyat and Carlos Sainz take 5th and 6th places in front the first Ferrari SF16-H by Kimi Räikkönen, seventh at 1″433. Sergio Pérez (Force India) inserts himself between the two Maranello cars and precedes Sebastian Vettel and Jenson Button (McLaren).

Several incidents punctuated the session, including that of Romain Grosjean (Haas), made a mistake at the start of the chicane at the exit of the tunnel, but was able to get back on the track afterwards. Rio Haryanto, for his part, was at the same level as Romain Grosjean, but seriously damaged his Manor MRT05, putting a premature end to his session, while Kevin Magnussen (Renault) also hit the rail in the last bend of the route.
