Monaco: finally points for McLaren

After starting from 10th position, Jenson Button managed to secure 8th place in the Monaco GP. The 2009 world champion allowed McLaren to achieve its objective with a top ten obtained in the streets of the Principality, offering the British team its first points of the season.

“We were hoping to score a point, we scored 4. I certainly didn’t expect to finish 8th”, admitted the winner of the 2009 edition. “I lost a position on Nico (Hulkenberg) at the start, but I regained the advantage at the 3rd turn of the first lap. I continued the qualifying laps once Pastor Maldonado had passed… The team deserves this result, it's a very positive step forward for us. »

Eric Boullier, the Team Principal of McLaren, was also delighted with this result while keeping some reservations for the future. “Even though Jenson drove very well, we are not going to waste time celebrating this milestone”, indicated the Frenchman. “This is encouraging, but our ambitions are for better results. And we will achieve them, believe me. »

Fernando Alonso was less successful since he retired following a mechanical problem linked to the gearbox while he was fighting for points.
