Monaco will be “a good opportunity” for Lewis Hamilton

“I have the feeling that this should be a better weekend for us than the last one”. Lewis Hamilton approaches the Monaco Grand Prix, on one of his favorite circuits, with optimism. But he always has in mind his poor performance in Barcelona. Starting from second position in Spain, the 2008 world champion experienced an ordeal in the race and was never able to fight for points. The trend could be reversed in the streets of the principality, where overtaking is very dangerous and the starting position is preponderant. A specificity that could benefit Mercedes, very efficient in qualifying at the start of the season, but more delicate in the race. “It’s a good opportunity”, concedes the Briton. “But you never know what other teams are capable of”, he is wary, while Fernando Alonso made him and his teammate Nico Rosberg the favorites for Sunday's race.

“Mercedes was in good shape here last year, and we have a better car this year, so we should be competitive. But Red Bull, Lotus and Ferrari will be too, we will see », announces Lewis Hamilton. To improve, the Brackley team must work on the management of its tires during the race, the W04 proving too demanding with its tires. “This is something we are absolutely trying to improve and we are working hard to understand. A lot of work has gone into analyzing why this happens and a lot of ideas are starting to emerge. I know we can do it, we just have to stay motivated”, concludes Lewis Hamilton, who, as is often the case, has a special livery on his helmet for the Monaco meeting.
