Monaco, a chance for Force India?

The Monaco Grand Prix will represent perhaps the biggest opportunity of the season for Force India. The Indian team hopes to showcase itself by taking advantage of the urban track with VJM08s lacking speed. With the best provisional result this year being a 7th place won by Nico Hulkenberg at the Australian GP, team owner Vijay Mallya seems to be looking forward to this weekend.

“The unpredictable nature of Monaco could be in our favor, even if we lacked pace in Barcelona", admits the Indian businessman, who saw Adrian Sutil and Nico Hülkenberg take 5th place in the last two editions. “It’s a track that has worked well for us in the past and I think we can do something special again this year. Soft tires should be suitable for the VJM08 and our drivers love racing in Monaco…”

Si Force India only occupies 8th place in the Manufacturers' Championship, Vijay Mallya does not want to appear dejected. “I said before the Spanish GP that the priority was to stay in contact with the middle of the grid until we developed the performance of the car. It's encouraging to see that we are only 8 points away from 5th place (occupied by Sauber F1 Team)…”, underlines the owner of the Indian team. “We must make progress in qualifying as a priority to be able to take advantage of our race performances which are more developed. »

The first free practice session of the Monaco GP will be followed live this Thursday, May 21 from 10 a.m. on Canal+ Sport.
