Monza guaranteed to be on the calendar until 2024

The Monza temple of speed will once again be there for the F1 until 2024, as Liberty Media confirmed this Wednesday evening, a few days before the 2019 edition of the Italian Grand Prix, the 90th contested in the World Championship.

A rare event to have to be officially confirmed during the recent presentation of the 2020 calendar, the Lombard race was made official during the anniversary ceremonies of the 90th anniversary of the Team Ferrari.

While this year it reaches its 90th edition (68 within the framework of F1), the Italian Grand Prix has been on the calendar since the first year of the championship in 1950 and has been organized at Monza every year except in 1980, where Imola had taken over.

“It’s like a victory in a Grand Prix, very hard and important, and which lasted until the finish line, and which counts for not one but five titles,” confesses Angelo Sticchi Damiani, president of the Automobile Club of Italy.

It is with great satisfaction that I welcome the conclusion of the agreement between the ACI and Formula 1 which guarantees, for the next five years, the Italian Grand Prix to be included in the World Championship calendar of Formula 1 and guarantees that the event will take place in the Temple of speed: the Monza circuit, not only the oldest, but also the fastest and most spectacular in all of motorsport.

It is a great result for the ACI, for Monza, for the Lombardy region and for Italian sport in general, and which opens a five-year perspective to build a future that lives up to the legendary past that has made Monza a capital of motorsport.

It was a difficult journey to achieve this result and one of those victories that makes us forget all the risks, all the efforts, and leaves great joy inside. »
