Monza will invest nearly 10 million euros

Monza is one of the last giants of the calendar F1. The transalpine route is a myth in the same way as Monaco or Silverstone. But the recipes are no longer as good as before in the last temple of speed, and lair of Italian fans of the Team Ferrari. Bernie Ecclestone recently expressed his reluctance to extend the contract with the circuit near Milan in Lombardy, contract ending in 2016. But those responsible for the complex have not said their last word and are announcing a vast modernization plan.

“We therefore do not know what Mr Ecclestone's demands are for the Italian Grand Prix, whether from an economic or commercial point of view. For our part, we plan to modernize the infrastructure. The work will begin this year and will last four or five years. It?s not easy to say how much we are going to spend. This is public money since the circuit belongs to the municipalities of Monza and Milan. However, the investment will be at least 10 million euros. » explains Federico Bendinelli, F1 operations director at Monza circuit to SportBusiness International.

A necessary investment therefore so that F1 does not leave Italy definitively. Monza has hosted the premier discipline of motorsport every year since 1950, except in 1980, when Imola took over from the Lombard track.
