Nelson Piquet Jr scratches Felipe Massa

After asking Felipe Massa to let it pass Fernando Alonso at the German Grand Prix, Ferrari received a lot of criticism, both from fans of Formula 1 than the press. On the pilots' side, on the other hand, opinions are more divided. While some advocate sportsmanship, others think that team strategies should not be prohibited. If a driver is faster than his teammate, then the team management should have permission to order the latter to pull over.

Among the former Formula 1 drivers sharing this opinion, we find Nelson Piquet Jr. The Brazilian is not kind to his compatriot Felipe Massa.

“It is difficult for Massa to accept that Alonso is faster, when he arrived after him in the team, explains Alonso?s former teammate at Renault in the columns of the Brazilian magazine Istoe. But Ferrari will not miss the opportunity to give one of its drivers the opportunity to close the gap separating them from the championship leaders. If Massa doesn't want this to happen, he needs to find a way to be faster than Alonso. It?s the only thing he can do. If he had been ahead of Alonso in the championship, it would have been up to him to pass. »

A radical opinion to say the least, shared by Gerhard Berger, former resident of Scuderia Ferrari.

"Alonso is clearly the best driver in the team, their only chance to win the title, says the Austrian to Auto Motor und Sport. Montezemolo broke the bank to get it, and he will play this card as much as possible. »

Obviously, the Scuderia therefore has allies in the community. On September 8, the trans teamalpine will be heard by the World Motor Sport Council in Paris, before which it will have to explain this matter. Subsequently, a sanction, or not, will be taken against him.
