Newey: Mercedes and Ferrari are in control

Adrian Newey, the technical consultant of Red Bull Racing, does not seem to believe in a return to the forefront of Miltoin Keynes' team in 2016 after the Austrian structure extended its contract with Renault, due to lack of agreement with Mercedes et Ferrari. The British engineer believes that current regulations favor the domination of the star manufacturer and the Italian brand, more advanced than the Diamond in the development of Power Units.

“What is unhealthy about F1, is that it is dominated by the engines », said Adrian Newey in Asian Age. “The chassis regulations are very strict, but the engine rules leave room for development. We are in a situation where only Mercedes and Ferrari are strong enough to win the Championship. They ultimately control discipline. I hope the FIA will manage this situation. »

Adrian Newey does not regret the introduction of the 6l turbo/hybrid V1.6. “I have always liked the changes in regulations, they offer new perspectives of discovery. The current engine must remain the same... The FIA can also put in place a standard engine which would be competitive for all teams,” added the Briton.
