Nick Heidfeld with Mercedes GP

Nick Heidfeld will always be a driver of Formula 1 in 2010, but not necessarily where he expected. After the announcement of the withdrawal of BMW, the driver of the BMW-Sauber team increased his contacts in order to find refuge for the 2010 Formula 1 season. Quickly, the former driver of Cheers GP, Sauber, Jordan and Williams had got in touch with Mercedes, new owner of the Brawn GP team, confident that he dreamed of joining this team. But the return to competition of Michael Schumacher then ruled out the hypothesis of seeing “Quick Nick” teaming up with Nico Rosberg.

Nick Heidfeld then failed in his attempt to find a starting seat in the paddock, as the start of the Formula 1 season approached. This Thursday, Mercedes GP announces the signing of Heidfeld as reserve and test driver, a role which only offers few kilometers to the driver concerned, due to the ban on private testing during the season.

« I am very happy to join Mercedes GP Petronas Formula One Team, confides Nick Heidfeld. This is the team that has proven to be the most attractive this offseason, not only because of the return of Michael Schumacher, but also because this season marks the return of the Silver Arrows as Mercedes-Benz cars, a first in fifty years. »

« Although I would have preferred, of course, to inherit a seat as a regular driver, I am really proud to be part of the Silver Arrows team., continues Heidfeld. I saw how everyone on the team felt and I'm on the same page. I will do my best to support Michael and Nico this year. »
