Nick Heidfeld plays at home

Nick, welcome to the Nürburgring. Coming to Germany, do you have the feeling of running ?at home? ?

Definitely yes. This track is special to me, not just because it is in Germany, but because it is an hour from my hometown. I have lots of memories here and not just Formula 1. I had some great races in other categories, I achieved my first pole position in F1 and finished second in the race. It’s also where I learned to ride a bike and drove a kart for the first time. So it’s a very special place for me.

You have participated in numerous German GPs. Are you even more motivated to run in front of your fans?

Absolutely. When you drive, you always attack to the maximum of your possibilities but in this case it is more pleasant because there are more supporters cheering you on and the pleasure is greater because you see that people are enjoying it.

The team is bringing several new features to the car this weekend. What should we expect?

This weekend promises to be interesting for us because we are bringing new and major developments to the car, whereas we only had minor modifications in previous races. It?s a bit of a leap into the unknown because it can be very successful but it can also cause problems. In which case we would have to return to the factory and analyze them. Either way it will be an exciting weekend.

Do the next two races have a major importance in the sense that they could relaunch LRGP with a view to the second half of the season?

Yes, that?s exactly why I think they?re important. Like every team, we strive hard to succeed. But the summer break is long and it is important that it takes place in a good atmosphere. It already exists (the good atmosphere) despite some difficult races recently. We know where we need to improve, we scored a few points and we want to catch the top teams. So I hope our next two races will be good.
