Nick Heidfeld enjoys the rain

Nick Heidfeld?s second place today is not due to chance. Starting with a car loaded with gasoline, the BMW driver was counting on the rain to make the difference. “It was an extreme and interesting race today. I got off to a good start, but with a car full of fuel, the first laps weren't easy for me. When we saw that it was going to rain, I returned to the pits 7 laps before what we had planned, to put on rain tires. Only, it didn't rain as we hoped and I quickly damaged my rubbers. My team then asked me to stay on the track, convinced that the rain was coming. Only my tires were almost slick. Intermediate tires would have been better suited at this point, but who could have known that? When the downpour finally arrived, the decision to stop the race was the right one. It was no longer possible to drive our single-seaters. I am happy with this result. Finishing second from tenth on the grid is quite unexpected. »

Robert Kubica?s race was compromised on the formation lap, with a suspicious noise. The race only lasted a few laps for Kubica, who was quickly forced to retire following an engine problem.
