Nico Hülkenberg announces his ouster

Nico Hulkenberg knew well what was going on behind his back and, despite his pole position during the Brazilian Grand Prix, the young German suspected that it would not be enough to remain a starter in the Grove team. After just one season in F1 with Williams, the team with which he had been collaborating for a long time as a reserve driver, “Hulk” must turn the page, to his great regret.

« I strongly regret this decision, because I would have been very happy to stay at Williams, confides the German. I would like to thank the team for these good times and I wish Williams the best in the future. » But F1 is far from over for Hülkenberg, who still has a lot to prove. “ I am in negotiations with other teams. Nico will have a seat in F1 in 2011 », attests Willi Weber, his manager.

The latter had also revealed, this weekend, the news of the ouster of the pilot. Nico Hülkenberg will have competed in 19 Grands Prix, for 22 points scored: his best ranking is sixth place in Hungary. His replacement at Williams could be GP2 Series champion Pastor Maldonado, who will take part in testing for young drivers this week. Romain Grosjean, who returned to GP2 at the end of the season and who was titled in Auto GP, is also in discussions with the Grove team.
