Nico Rosberg on pole ahead of Hamilton in Barcelona

Mercedes AMG F1 was again impressive in qualifying for the Spanish Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg wins his second consecutive pole after that obtained in Bahrain with a time of 1'20"718. The Silver Arrows were unbeatable this afternoon, with the latter taking a clear advantage in the final sector. Lewis Hamilton thus locks the first row for the Brackley team by failing two tenths behind the German. However, the W04s may have difficulty resisting Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Räikkönen who will start from the second row. However, only Mark Webber has managed to win without starting from pole in the last ten editions contested on the Circuit de Catalunya (in 2011).

On a track where the public is devoted to its cause, Fernando Alonso only managed to take fifth place ahead of his teammate Felipe Massa. The Sao Paulista finally suffered, like Esteban Gutiérrez, a penalty of three places on the grid for having hindered Mark Webber and thus fell to ninth place. The Australian will start from seventh behind Romain Grosjean who could certainly have qualified better if he had not made a mistake in his second flying lap. Sergio Pérez inherits eighth place while Paul di Resta completes the top ten, the Mexican having managed to qualify for Q3 unlike his teammate Jenson Button.

The 2009 world champion was severely lacking in performance since he will only start from 14th place behind Adrian Sutil who also sees his teammate ahead of him by several places on the grid. The Briton and the German will have to start by taking the advantage over the Toro Rosso de Daniel Ricciardo and Jean-Eric Vergne who confirmed the clear increase in performance of the STR8. The Sauber drivers and Williams are once again significantly behind by completing the grid ahead of Caterham and Marussia. Giedo van der Garde is ahead of Jules Bianchi by a tenth while Charles Pic will start from last position.

The Spanish Grand Prix will start at 14 p.m. and can be followed live on AUTOhebdo.fr.
