Nico Rosberg took a while to find his rhythm in Mexico

Regularly dominated by his teammate Lewis Hamilton, but also alternatively by Ferrari ou Red Bull in free practice, Nico Rosberg finally redressed the bar during qualifying. However, the assurance of seeing the German driver on the front row was not acquired during Q3, the former driver Williams having waited for his last attempt to complete a sufficient lap to climb alongside his teammate.

Less in the spotlight since Friday, Rosberg admits to having taken more time than usual to feel completely comfortable on the Mexican track. « It just took a little longer this weekend to find the right path, generally with cooler tire temperatures. So there was a bit of nervousness and it took a bit longer, but we got there in the end, so it's all good. »

The leader of the world championship before this Mexican Grand Prix also recalls that everything remains possible with a view to the race tomorrow, at the end of which he could win his first title in the event of success and an unfavorable result for Lewis Hamilton.

“At the end of this qualification, I am very happy with my feeling in the car and the way I managed to pull off a good trick. But Lewis was just a little faster. I'm not happy that I missed pole position.

But, on the other hand, starting from second place here is not so bad. There are a lot of possibilities, because the straight before the first corner is very long. We have seen several times this year that pole is not that important. »

However, more than just an internal struggle Mercedes, Rosberg is this time even more wary of Red Bull, which raised its level in EL3, before securing a new second row, Verstappen ranking one tenth of second place.
