Nico Rosberg takes pole amid chaos

Since yesterday, Lewis Hamilton had completely dominated the three free practice sessions at the Hungaroring. But bad luck once again befell the 2008 World Champion. At the start of Q1, the Briton saw his car catch fire. Despite his attempts to try to bring the W05 back to the pits, he was forced to stop in the entrance to the pit lane, so that the marshals could put out the fire.

With his teammate and rival eliminated from the start, Nico Rosberg thought he had free rein, but the arrival of rain at the start of Q3 almost played a bad trick on him. Surprised at the first braking by the wet tarmac, the German finally caught up with his car and avoided the exit. Quite the opposite of Kevin Magnussen (McLaren) left to hit the wall of tires a few seconds after Rosberg's gap. The red flag is deployed to clear the MP4-29. On resumption, if Valtteri Bottas et Sebastian Vettel will quickly take the lead, Nico Rosberg will sign a 1'22"715, enough to win the tenth pole of his career.

Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull) ranks 2nd ahead of Williams by Valtteri Bottas. Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) takes 4th place ahead Fernando Alonso (Ferrari), Felipe Massa (Williams), Jenson Button (McLaren), Jean-Eric Vergne (Toro Rosso), excellent 8th, Nico Hulkenberg (Force India) and therefore Magnussen.

The session was also marked by the premature elimination of Kimi Räikkönen (Ferrari), beaten by Jules Bianchi in the final moments of Q1. The Scuderia did not send the Finn back onto the track, thinking that his time would be sufficient. Pastor Maldonado is another unlucky person in this qualifying session, forced to stop on track in the first moments of Q1, stopped by a mechanical problem on his Lotus.
