The Grands Prix pass and the situation does not necessarily improve for Mercedes. If George Russell landed an unexpected 4e place, Lewis Hamilton was unable to do anything during the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix. In difficulty with his W13, the Englishman spent most of the race behind Pierre Gasly without ever being able to really attack him for an anonymous person 13e position on arrival.

But it was not only in the race that the Silver Arrows experienced great difficulties. The complications began during qualifying on Friday at Imola where neither driver managed to cross the threshold for Q2. A first for Mercedes since the 2012 Japanese Grand Prix which says a lot about the team's current situation.

Former driver of the house and crowned world champion with in 2016, Nico Rosberg was invited to take stock of Mercedes' convoluted start to the season. Although he recognizes the difficulties, the German maintains confidence in the team and in particular in Toto wolff, whose actions were closely monitored last weekend at Imola.

« Toto is obviously one of the best team leaders we have seen in this sport, insists the former pilot at the microphone of Sky Sports F1. He is very, very good at keeping people united and motivated. Sure, he can have angry outbursts, as we may have seen, but I still believe he is the right person to keep such a team afloat in such a difficult situation.

I can guarantee you that no one at Mercedes is happy to be two seconds off the pace and to be eliminated in Q2 and without having the opportunity to fight at the front. It's a pretty horrible situation for them to live in, who are so used to success. »

Nico Rosberg may have confidence, but Mercedes for its part does not seem to see the end of the tunnel. With two weeks of break before the Miami Grand Prix (May 6 to 8), Toto Wolff and his gang have their work cut out for them to try to find a solution in the absence of experiencing another complicated weekend.
