Nigel Mansell can't see F1 without Ferrari

Sergio Marchionne, president of FIAT-Chrysler and Ferrari, has been constantly reminding us for several weeks: Ferrari could leave the sport if by chance the Italian brand does not find its account in the next regulation.

Threats of departure regularly commented on, and which could cause harm to the discipline as Nigel Mansell admits. Having joined the ranks of Maranello between 1989 and 1990, the man nicknamed “Il Leone” by fans believes that Ferrari is an essential link in the F1.

" Absolutely not, proclaims the British questioned by Sky Sports News on the possibility of seeing F1 operate without Ferrari. F1 would face serious challenges if it let another manufacturer walk away.

We only have twenty cars on the grid. In the heyday, there were 43 single-seaters trying to qualify for 26 places. Fans wish they had 26 cars today. We need to have new drivers, new blood, new manufacturers to benefit from more balanced competition. »

Despite the declarations of its president, the FIAT group will strengthen its involvement in F1 this year with the return ofAlfa Romeo as title sponsor of Sauber F1 Team. Rumors also mention the possible alliance between Haas and Maserati.

Ross Brawn, Motor Sports director of Liberty Media, admitted for his part that he hoped for the arrival of new manufacturers in the future, including Aston Martin, Porsche or Lamborghini. The first mentioned will also be the title sponsor of Red Bull Racing this season.
