The three-time world champion continues his rehabilitation phase at home after his lung transplant.

Niki Lauda leaves hospital and continues treatment at home

This is enough to reassure the paddock of the Formula 1. Niki Lauda was able to leave the hospital this Wednesday General of Vienna (Austria) and return home. The three-time world champion (in 1975, 1977 and 1984) “must still undergo an intensive medical rehabilitation program over several weeks” the hospital service said in a press release.

The current non-executive director of Mercedes in F1, aged 69, had been admitted urgently at the beginning of August “in critical condition” for inflammation of the pulmonary alveoli which was accompanied by bleeding of the lung tissues and in the respiratory system.

Placed in an artificial coma to undertake a lung transplant, Niki Lauda was able to receive a few visits loved ones the week following his operation. The Austrian has come a long way, the doctors having recognized that his life expectancy did not exceed " A few days " without this intervention.
