Norris and the praise of serenity: “I was doing too much, I was overdriving”

Lando Norris (McLaren) is riding the wave of his first podium in Formula 1. The Briton once again delivered a top-notch performance by setting the fourth fastest time in qualifying for the British Grand Prix this Saturday, August 1.

Despite his young age (20 years), the champion of F3 Europe 2017 showed maturity behind the wheel. “I attacked too much in Q1 and Q2, which led to driving errors, especially with the gusts of wind, he explained. I was erratic. I was overdoing it, overdriving.

It's like the more you attack, the worse it gets. You always found a little wind to blow you over the edge. So, I almost kept some on hand for later. »

The turtle's (orange) philosophy paid off. His team principal Andreas Seidl was delighted with these times, especially since Carlos Sainz Jr set the seventh fastest time.

“I have a lot of respect for our two drivers. We have appeared four times in a row in Q3 with our two cars, this confirms that our two drivers are two assets for our team. »

However, engineers had to work overnight from Friday to Saturday to straighten the slope. “We were not happy with our results in free practice on Friday,” he continued. The team did a great job. »
