Norris “proud of his team” after his first podium

Lando Norris made a strong impression at the Austrian GP. The Briton took advantage of a high-performance MCL35 at Red Bull Ring to stay in the leading group and secure his first podium in F1 for his 22nd start. It was at the end of the race that the 2017 champion of F3 gained valuable positions by taking advantage in particular of the problems ofAlexander albon (Red Bull) and making a significant overtake on Sergio Pérez (Racing Point).

" I am speechless, admitted the pilot McLaren. I thought several times that it would be complicated. Carlos (Sainz Jr) almost overtook me, but I didn't give up and found myself on the podium. It was a long race with many fights and we finally found ourselves fighting for the Top 3. I pushed hard towards the end with lively laps towards the finish. I am very proud of the team which has come a long way in recent years and it is very positive. »

Lando Norris finally snatched 3rd place from Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) penalized by 5 seconds by leading the six-time world champion by less than 2 tenths ahead.

“I knew Pérez was under a 5-second penalty when I overtook him, but I didn't know the rest. I only found out about the punishment given to Lewis (Hamilton). In any case, I had to maintain a high pace with the sequence of laps”, he added.

With Carlos Sainz Jr's 5th place, McLaren is in second place in the Constructors' Championship, 9 points behind Mercedes.
