Let's not forget Roland Ratzenberger

April 30, 1994. Qualifying for the third round of the World Championship F1 have just started at Imola in Italy when the Simtek S941 with a V8 Ford engine of Austrian Roland Ratzenberger violently leaves the track at more than 300 km/h, at the Villeneuve bend. The intervention of the doctors led by Sid Watkins will do nothing. Ratzenberger is the first driver to die in a race since 1982 and the death of Riccardo Paletti in Canada.

The Austrian was in his first season in F1 after having started in F3 English, and having gone through tourism and Le Mans (5th in 1993). He took 11th place during the Pacific Grand Prix, the round which preceded the San Marino Grand Prix. Roland Ratzenberger was 33 years old.
