George Russell will join Sebastian Vettel among the drivers penalized on the grid for the United States Grand Prix, 17th round of the 2021 season.

Like its Aston Martin counterpart, the pilot Williams is indeed preparing to receive a new engine Mercedes this weekend in Texas.

After Valtteri Bottas in Italy then in Russia, Lewis Hamilton in Turkey, and therefore Vettel across the Atlantic, Russell will be the 4th driver powered by a penalized German engine. Signs that the reliability of the star propeller continues to worry as the 2021 season has shifted into its final third.

Williams has not yet clarified whether Russell will only take a new internal combustion engine (ICE) or other components as well. Remember that each driver is entitled to 3 ICE, 3 MGU-H, 3 MGU-K 3 turbochargers, 2 batteries, and 2 electronic controls per season.

The first time the limit is exceeded for one of these elements, the driver will receive a 10-place penalty on the grid. The first time the limit is exceeded for any subsequent element, he will have to move back 5 places.

The second time the limit is exceeded for one of these elements, the driver will receive a 10-place penalty on the grid. The second time the limit is exceeded for any following element, he will have to move back 5 places. And so on. Any driver reaching 15 penalty places will automatically start at the back of the grid.
