We found “Mr. Consistency”! George Russell scored his second consecutive podium in Hungary, after his 3rd place in France. The Briton also finished in the top 5 for the third time in a row since his accident at Silverstone, the 3th in 12 races! Exceptional consistency, even if the young 13-year-old driver could have hoped for better. Starting from pole position for the first time in his career, Russell held the reins of the Grand Prix for several laps, before first giving in to the Ferrari then facing the Red Bull de Verstappen.

If he was able to touch the dream of a first victory in F1, George Russell is still satisfied with his race. “When it started to rain at the very start of the race, with the soft tires we had a very good start, explained the English pilot. It was a very good first stint. Afterwards, with the mediums and the rain falling, I really struggled, I was losing temperature. But it’s a fantastic job by the whole team. After yesterday, we made a double podium, we are definitely making progress. I am very proud of the work that everyone has accomplished. »

Russell wants to play for victories after the summer break

Thanks to this new podium, George Russell moved up to 4th place in the drivers' championship, ahead of Carlos Sainz. Mercedes even comes back only 30 points behind the Scuderia among the constructors. Proof that the German team is back in the match against Red Bull and Ferrari.

From now on, according to George Russell, victory is within reach for Mercedes, despite the few imperfections that persist on the W13. “There is still a lot to work on. Managing the tires was very difficult, we stopped very early in both stints. We tried to warm up the tires until the end while pushing as much as possible. (…) It’s been very intense since the start of the season. The summer break will be good for everyone. We will come back for the second part of the season to fight for victories. »
