New tires: Pirelli goes into reverse

Pirelli gives up! The Italian manufacturer will no longer provide, until further notice, the new tires he wanted to bring into force from the British Grand Prix, supposed to combat the risk of delamination observed at the start of the season. Although these new compounds were brought to Canada during free practice, the teams were not able to test them due to climatic conditions. However, for them to enter the competition, all the teams had to express their approval. Which didn't make everyone happy at first glance, was of course not accepted under these conditions.

Deploring a lack of will on the part of the various teams, Pirelli decided to change its approach. The Italian company announces that it has modified its production process, with a new glue, without having touched the construction of the tires. A measure which could, according to the firm, have resolved the delamination problem. Even if no testing can be carried out between now and the next race... “We can't do tests because the teams are reluctant to use these new tires, and as long as we don't have unanimity we can't do anything. We think that with this new process the delamination problem will be resolved, but we will only know it on site. We're going around in circles! », deplores a source at Pirelli contacted by AUTOhebdo.fr.
