New race engineer for Albon at Red Bull

Red Bull has reviewed the organization chart of its track operations before the Silverstone doubleheader, which begins this weekend with the British GP (July 31-August 2).

Simon Rennie, who supported Mark Webber during his last global campaign in 2013, then Daniel Ricciardo between 2014 and 2018, returned to the Taureau Rouge engineering team.

Since last year, the engineer has held a role at the Milton Keynes factory (United Kingdom). After his transfer to Renault, Ricciardo revealed that Rennie's change of assignment influenced his career choice.

Rennie will replace Mike Lugg, who succeeded him in 2019 and worked with Pierre Gasly during his short stint under the Red Bull Racing colors. He collaborated with his successor Albon since his promotion to the Austrian giant’s parent team in the summer of 2019.

Despite an encouraging Austrian Grand Prix which could have ended on the podium without a collision with Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) at the end of the race, Albon seemed generally in difficulty at the wheel of a capricious and aerodynamically imperfect RB16.

Hence Red Bull's desire to associate him with an experienced engineer who has guided Ricciardo to his 7 career victories. Lugg, for his part, is going the opposite way and will now work from the factory.
