New phase of evolution for Renault

The V6 turbo/hybrid engines from the engine manufacturer Viruses had already begun the beginning of their evolution in China a little over two weeks ago. But it is in Catalonia that the French Power Units should experience new and significant improvements according to Rémi Taffin, director of track activities at Renault Sport F1. “The improvements will not be physically visible, they will however be significant in terms of the software which will offer more driving flexibility and therefore an increase in overall performance, explains Taffin. We also continued to improve energy management and efficiency. Thanks to these new features, we hope to continue our progress in Barcelona. »

The Frenchman also explains that consumption should not pose any major problems on the Catalan route, while the French engines are more greedy than their German counterparts in particular. “In Barcelona, thanks to the tight corners, such as number 10 or the chicane, it is quite easy to recover energy. These two portions, in particular, will offer the possibility for the MGU-K to recharge, while the MGU-H batteries do not discharge on the long straight of the pits. Finally, with a variety of cornering speeds, fuel consumption should not pose a major problem. The key elements for optimal performance will therefore be the good response of the powertrain in fast corners, like numbers 3 and 8, as well as the stability of the rear axle during braking and gear entry phases in curves. the slowest, such as number 10. We have worked a lot on these parameters over the last three weeks and we go to Spain confident of delivering good performances. » Red Bull in particular had recently announced that it wanted to compete Mercedes from this first European Grand Prix.

The first laps on the Montmelo circuit will take place from Friday 10 a.m.
