The winter is looking busy for Milton Keynes. If the 2024 campaign had started off with a bang with 7 victories in 10 Grands Prix for Max Verstappen, Red Bull suddenly lost all the lead it had. McLaren started to win, Ferrari to catch up with them and the Austrian team no longer had the same striking force.
Alone against the competition, Max Verstappen held the fort as best he could but could not prevent defeat in the Constructors' race with a 3rd place finish behind Ferrari and the champions McLaren. The watchword is therefore a reaction from the factory in Buckinghamshire with the ambition of becoming again the steamroller that the team has been in recent years. But what should we expect? A brand new car? An evolution of the RB20?
« It will be a mixture of both., explains Christian Horner to Sky Sports F1. There will be developments in different compartments of the car, major changes in others. The field has come closer together and it will be very close next year. It is important to have a car that can perform in all types of conditions and on all circuits. »
Life without Newey
In addition to this challenge, Red Bull will for the first time design a car for a season without the participation of Adrian Newey. If the brilliant engineer had stepped back slightly in recent years so that the technical team led by the Frenchman Pierre Waché could take a little more responsibility, the Austrian team will no longer be able to rely on the know-how of the man who has had his heyday since 2006.
« The team did a very good job in the face of the difficulties encountered this year., reassures Christian Horner. We were able to give the car some performance at the end of the season, with pole positions, victories like in Qatar, Brazil... Even in this final sprint as a whole.
This is the first time that Adrian will have no involvement with the car. It’s a great challenge for the team but I have full confidence in the team and what it’s capable of. We’ll see what our RB21 looks like when it’s unveiled at the end of January. »

It would still be surprising if the technical team managed by Pierre Waché were to fail, even if the tutelary shadow of Adrian Newey has completely disappeared from the Red Bull landscape!
