Nyck de Vries on loan from Mercedes to Aston Martin at Monza

Nyck de Vries is a chameleon. After Williams et Mercedes in 2022, the Dutchman will wear the green colors ofAston Martin during the first free practice session of the Italian Grand Prix this Friday September at Monza, following an agreement linking the brand to the Star and Aston Martin.

The 2021 champion of Formula E will compete in his third session of the year on behalf of the third different team. In Barcelona (Spain), he took the seat ofAlexander albon at Williams while Lewis Hamilton gave him his steering wheel at Paul-Ricard (Var) this summer. In the Temple of Speed, he will support Lance stroll on Friday, leaving the future retiree Sebastian Vettel in the stand.

“I'm really looking forward to driving for Aston Martin, especially on a circuit as legendary as Monza, explains the Mercedes reservist. This will be my third FP1 session of the season, and in the third different Formula 1 chassis, and these opportunities have given me a fantastic insight into how Formula 1 cars and teams work and operate.

I hope I can bring a new perspective to the Aston Martin team and undertake a racing program that proves beneficial for everyone. »

Team Principal Mike Krack said “delighted to welcome Nyck”. “I have followed Nyck's career with great interest – he drove brilliantly to win the Formula 2 in 2019 and highlighted his abilities by winning the Formula E World Championship in 2020-2021; so we are looking forward to getting his analysis and insights on our car. »

The Luxembourg engineer is full of praise for Nyck de Vries. “His achievements show that he clearly deserves a chance in F1 – and hopefully this opportunity to get behind the wheel of the AMR22 will allow him to showcase his abilities to the world.” »

Aston Martin specifies that Nyck de Vries' participation in EL1 at Monza was organized in agreement with Mercedes-AMG F1 and falls within the framework of the 2022 regulations. These require that all teams complete two free practice sessions with drivers who have not participated in more than two Grands Prix.

Aston Martin has not yet confirmed who will take the wheel of the only remaining free practice spot this year.
