Arrived at the Yas Marina track with a 19-point lead in the Manufacturers' Championship over McLaren, Alpine can approach the final round of the 2022 season in Abu Dhabi with relative confidence. The blue and pink single-seaters of Fernando Alonso et Esteban Ocon hold the rope to finish fourth in the team rankings, but between the two men, the magic no longer seems to work.

At least this is what emerges from Esteban Ocon's statements to F1 TV just before free practice on Friday. “It's no secret (to say) that I was disappointed when I saw his comments after that Sao Paulo Sprint Race. There was no need to say this kind of criticism,” blurted the Norman.

However, Esteban Ocon keeps his head on his shoulders and knows how to put things into perspective. “But as I said before, I still respect him enormously and that always will be the case, given everything he has accomplished on the track over all these years. He is a legend of our sport, that will not change. But yes, I was a little disappointed. »

The pilots Alpine were hanging on at the start of the Sprint Race at the Brazilian Grand Prix last weekend. Fernando Alonso was found guilty of this percussion with his teammate but had great difficulty accepting the sentence. “One more race, and it will be over”, he declared to the Spanish press on Saturday evening at Interlagos, in reference to his announced departure around Aston Martin. On Sunday, an excellent race allowed him to finish in fifth place, and since then, everything has been forgotten for the Spaniard.
