Ocon: The future depends on performance

It is on the sidelines of the final of DTM at Hockenheim that Esteban Ocon, present as ambassador Mercedes, confided in his future in F1. The Manor Racing driver remains lucid about the end of the season which is looming and believes that Mexico and Abu Dhabi could allow him to put himself forward, he who wishes to focus solely on his driving at the wheel of the MRT05.

“I know that there are discussions for next year, I have confidence in those around me for that. I only want to concentrate on the race: driving an F1 car is difficult enough as it is. If you can show that you are performing well, there will always be opportunities. »

If nothing has yet been decided for 2017, Norman is one of the potential options for Renault Sport F1 Team in order to complete its 2017 line-up, already made up of Nico Hulkenberg.

“Having the trust of two competing manufacturers on the track is an honor. I know Frédéric Vasseur (Team Principal of Renault Sport F1 Team) very well, who was my boss in the GP3 Series last year.

I frequently chat with him about the Grands Prix. He is one of the people who made sure that I am in F1 today. But I repeat: my career is in the hands of Mercedes. »
