Ocon: “The car looks good”

62 laps of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya completed in 4 hours of driving, barely 4 less than the distance of the Spanish Grand Prix organized at the beginning of May: Esteban Ocon had a productive and cloudless start to winter testing in Catalonia, in a new working environment.

The Frenchman, who gave way to his teammate Daniel Ricciardo for the afternoon session, was therefore smiling and relaxed when delivering his first sensations during the lunch break.

« The test is going very well so far, told the Norman to journalists. We completed our morning program without encountering any problems. The car seems well-built, the initial feeling is really good because the car is predictable. It’s a great starting point. ».

If it is of course too early to sketch the beginning of a semblance of hierarchy, Ocon is in any case certain of one thing: the 2020 single-seaters are much faster than their predecessor.

« The car goes much faster than before, confirmed the native of Évreux. Afterwards, I think everyone improved enormously. The single-seaters evolve from year to year but I have never felt such a level of grip. I have never gone through certain corners so quickly. It’s very stimulating because we continue to drop the times. I think we're going to break all the track records this year ».

Finally, Ocon brushed aside the beginnings of rumors surrounding its large size and position aboard the R.S.20, notably its placement in relation to the Halo and the possible impact that the device could have on its forward visibility.

« I am within the rules, I am very well installed in the car, said the rookie Renault. I did a test drive of the car under FIA supervision yesterday and everything went well ».

Clearly, nothing to report on the Losange side on this opening day. No one will complain about it in the French clan.
