Ocon: “Things will get better again” with Pérez

Esteban Ocon commented in issue 2121 of AUTOhebdo the accident with his teammate Sergio Pérez which occurred during the Azerbaijan GP in Baku on June 25. The two drivers clashed while battling for the podium. The 2015 GP3 Series champion was able to salvage a 6th place while the Mexican finally retired.

“It’s true, we are teammates, but we are also adversaries. His restart was average and, at turn 2, I saw the opening and tried a maneuver. It's a racing incident like it happens at all Grands Prix, also between teammates., commented Esteban Ocon in his column. I left Baku happy with my performance but very disappointed at not having fully realized our potential. Both he and I lost a lot of time and places in the incident. »

Esteban Ocon also returned to the episode of the Canadian GP where Sergio Pérez did not respect the instructions by refusing to let the Frenchman pass so that he could try to attack Daniel Ricciardo (Red Bull) who occupied 3rd place. The Mexican finally finished 5th in front of his teammate.

“I came back from Canada a little frustrated because the podium was playable. I was 7 to 8 tenths faster than my teammate, and I could have overtaken Ricciardo given the deficit he had on the straight. Sergio didn't want me to try my luck, it's a race. We had a good discussion after arrival during the debriefing and I personally called him the following week to discuss certain points. Things have worked out just as they will work out again before Spielberg…”
