Fifth in qualifying, Esteban Ocon (Alpine) could afford to aim big on Sunday during the Grand Prix. Ultimately, the race was a completely different matter.
Victim of the bad rhythm of his car and a daring strategy on the part ofAlpine (a single stop and 42 laps with mediums), the Norman was content with a 9th place that Pierre Gasly (alpha Tauri) was not far from stealing him in the last lap.
« It was a tough race, estimated the Frenchman. We need to review some topics as we were not as fast as the Ferrari or McLaren. Among the positive points, we leave this circuit with two points whereas last year we scored none.
This result is far from ideal after qualifying, but we accept it and look forward to the next meeting ».

Performing well in qualifying, the A521 ultimately failed to respond in the race, costing Esteban Ocon many places in the standings. “ We still have work to do on race pace and, as always, things we need to discuss together to progress, insists the pilot Alpine.
We will see where we will be in Monaco. It’s great to be back and we will be determined to get a better result ».
In Barcelona, Esteban Ocon saved the house furniture by pocketing the 2 points for 9th place while Fernando Alonso, long around 10th position, collapsed and finished 17th.
