One more time, Alpine got in the way on her own. This is not a question of a strategic error on the part of the French team but of a standoff between teammates which turned sour. After a first incident where they touched at turn 4 shortly after the start, Esteban Ocon et Fernando Alonso met again later for a new episode.
This time, the consequences were more serious since the Spaniard lost his front wing and all hope of scoring points after another contact with the Norman whose race was also compromised. A situation far from ideal for Alpine who saw his pilots finish 17e and 18e while she is neck and neck facing McLaren for 4e place in the championship.

« Definitely not the kind of day we needed, regretted Esteban Oocn at Interlagos. We were optimistic going into the Sprint race after the good qualifying session on Friday but unfortunately the first lap incident ended our hopes. The damage to the car was significant and our performance suffered greatly. It's a real shame because we were performing very well this weekend and we were keen to score as many points as possible in our championship fight.. » As if that wasn't enough, Esteban Ocon's A522 caught fire in the Parc Fermé. Day to forget for him and the whole team…
