As we had already reported on AUTOhebdo, the calendar F1 2023 will reach the record number of 24 races. The season will also include the return of the Chinese Grand Prix (depending on how the Middle Kingdom continues to manage the Covid-19 pandemic), but also that of Qatar (absent in 2022 due to the World Cup). Football), without forgetting the arrival of the Las Vegas GP.

On the other hand, South Africa, although anticipated, is not on the program. As is now tradition, the championship would begin in Bahrain on March 5 and end in Abu Dhabi on November 26, a week after the highly anticipated Las Vegas meeting on Saturday, November 18.

The 2023 campaign will thus begin earlier to avoid taking place during Ramadan, which should begin around March 22. The first two rounds are in fact planned in the Middle East, with Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) due to host the F1 the 19 march.

It is once again the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Imola (Italy) which will open the European campaign, but much later than usual. The event would in fact be organized on May 21 to benefit from better weather conditions. It would be the first stage of an unprecedented Imola-Monaco-Barcelona triplet, with Spain usually preceding the meeting in the Principality.

The previous date of the Emilia-Romagna GP, in April, could be recovered by Baku in order to avoid the much-maligned Azerbaijan/Canada sequence of June. Finally, note that the Belgian Grand Prix has been brought forward to July; which could complicate the task of the Belgian promoter.

As expected, the French Grand Prix is unfortunately not on the program for the 2023 season.

« The presence of 24 races on the 1 FIA Formula 2023 World Championship calendar is further proof of the growth and appeal of the sport on a global scale, declares Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of the FIA. The addition of new venues and the maintenance of traditional events underline the good management of the sport by the FIA. I am delighted that we can bring the new era of exciting Formula 1 racing, created by the 2022 FIA regulations, to a wider fan base in 2023.  In framing the F1 2023 calendar, members of the WMSC (World Motor Sport Council. Editor’s note) also took into account the prestigious calendar 24 Hours of Le Mans »

The Le Mans classic being scheduled for June 10 and 11, there will be no confrontation of dates with a Formula 1 Grand Prix in 2023. Conversely, the Indy 500 will take place on the same weekend as the Grand Prix. Monaco Prize, May 28.

Yes, the 24 hours of Le Mans are safe, the Belgian GP in July, perhaps less weather risk?! Why 2 GPs in Italy? As for optimizing travel, there is improvement (a little) but clearly it is the most difficult, because there are regions of the world where at certain periods the weather is not compatible with the organization of travel. a GP.

Azerbaijan, Miami and Emilia-Romagna then Spain, Canada and Austria before Japan, Qatar and the United States to close with Brazil, Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi... there is still a lot of work to limit the carbon footprint of the great circus of Formula 1!
