OFFICIAL: The Miami Grand Prix on the 2022 calendar

After many unsuccessful attempts, the Miami Grand Prix (United States) will become a reality from 2022 for a period of at least 10 years. There F1 announced this Sunday in a press release. The date of the event will be announced later.

The premier discipline of motorsport will take place near the Hard Rock Stadium, a gigantic complex dedicated to entertainment. The venue, which hosts the home matches of the Miami Dolphins American football team, as well as concerts, is located in Miami Gardens, half an hour from the city center of the Florida city.

Despite the initial revolt of residents, a recent vote by the municipal council ratified the adoption of a series of investments amounting to 5 million dollars (4,1 million euros) which will be spread over the 10 years of the agreement and will be aimed at local communities and businesses.

Education programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics will also be established to benefit the population of Miami Gardens.

The new track will be 5,41 km long and will have 19 bends, 3 straights and as many potential DRS zones. The single-seaters should reach maximum speeds of 320 km/h.

« We are very happy to announce the coming of F1 to Miami in 2022, said Stefano Domenicali, CEO of the F1 Group. The United States is a key growth market for us and we are delighted to add a second race in America to our calendar. We will work closely with Hard Rock Stadium and the FIA to ensure we deliver a unique experience while making a positive contribution to local communities. We are grateful to the tourism industry and Miami Gardens elected officials for their patience with this project ».

Tom Garfinkel, the vice chairman and CEO of the Miami Dolphins and Hard Rock Stadium, has been named director of the Miami Grand Prix. “ Hard Rock Stadium's purpose is to host the world's largest events for the benefit of the Miami area and surrounding areas, and there is no event much bigger than an F1 Grand Prix. “, he commented.

Miami becomes the 11th location to host an F1 Grand Prix across the Atlantic after Riverside, Sebring, Watkins Glen, Long Beach, Las Vegas, Detroit, Dallas, Phoenix, Indianapolis and the Circuit of the Americas in Austin.
