We calculated who has won the most since Bahrain 2022

After the first qualifier of the year, we took out the calculator to compare the 2023 times with those of the previous year at the same location. A calculation rich in lessons.

It's always a somewhat perilous exercise and not necessarily totally 100% representative, but there was a certain sense in comparing the qualifying times for Bahrain 2023 with those for Bahrain 2022, a year earlier. As for this season, Bahrain was the opening round of the previous vintage. And the first strong indication is that no one has lost performance since then.

The teams have in fact had the whole year of 2022 to make the most of their previous car, and all winter 2023 to try to improve it. It should also be remembered that all teams inherently lost between 4 and 5/10ths this winter due to the anti-porpoising regulatory adjustments decided by the FIA. Despite this loss of lap time, the ten teams all improved in performance.

Unsurprisingly, the biggest leap forward can be attributed toAston Martin. +2″441! A spectacular figure which can be explained as much by the failed start to the 2022 season of the Silverstone team as by its exceptional recovery during the off-season thanks to the recruitment of several star engineers from the paddock. The greens are followed quite far by Williams (+1″203), bottom red last year and who very nearly placed his two cars in Q2 last Saturday.

Despite his titles last year and his reduction in wind tunnel time, Red Bull is the third team with the most progress. A situation which is mainly explained by the drastic reduction in weight of the RB19 compared to that of last year, the RB18 giving around ten kilos to its main competitors at the start of last year. Mercedes, for his part, won 7/10th while waiting for his new package during the next races.

Ferrari, who had started 2022 with a bang with two victories and two poles in the first three rounds, paid in this ranking for his great start to 2022 and therefore only gained half a second. It should nevertheless be remembered that Charles Leclerc was limited to only one Q3 run on Saturday, and which he would undoubtedly have improved by a tenth or two.

Finally, the least good progress can be attributed to the two Al(f)pha. Like last year, the best Alpha Tauri came out in Q2, without Yuki tsunoda cannot rely on a new set of tires. The team based in Italy still progressed by 0″235, which is better thanAlfa Romeo, which was one of the surprises of the first round of 2022 with Bottas. The Finn only improved his time by 117 thousandths.
