Where to operate the mobile wing at Sepang?

The DRS (Drag Reduction System, in other words in French the movable rear wing allowing a reduction of drag in a straight line) has caused a lot of ink to flow. Some pilots like it, others don't. The complicated rule stipulates that drivers have the right to activate it at a specific location on the circuit, and when they are less than a second from the car which precedes them. In Australia, it was at the pit straight, but what will it be this weekend in Kuala Lumpur? After Melbourne, the FIA allowed itself the right to modify the rule somewhat, the mobile wing not having been as convincing as expected during the opening round of the 2011 season. Were the zones chosen the good?

“With the moving rear wing, the situation is going to be very interesting here, admits the Brazilian from Team Ferrari Felipa Massa. For the moment, during the race, it is planned that DRS can only be used on the pit straight. But at Sepang, the return straight is longer, and offers more overtaking possibilities. We are therefore waiting for the final decision from the FIA on whether we can use DRS on the pit straight, on the return straight, or both. The decision could make the race more interesting for both drivers and spectators. Personally, I'm not sure that using DRS on both straights is the best option, as I think it could make overtaking too easy. »
